SUDDEN DEATH OF CAPTAIN RANDALL, OF THE S.S. OTAGO.
The N. Z. Advertiser of Friday last, informs us that the steamship Otago arrived at Port Chalmers on Thursday morning. She brought the sad intelligence that Captain Randall died on the previous evening, on the passage from Lyttelton. He was married the same morning, at Christchurch, to Mrs. Laing, a widow lady, who was a passenger from Melbourne to Dunedin. Previous to the marriage, Captain Randall had a slight fit, from which, however, he recovered so rapidly that no fears were entertained. On arriving on board after his marriage, he retired to his cabin, and remained there all the afternoun. About 7 o'clock Mrs. Randall gave an alarm that something was the matter with Capt. Randall. Lights were immediately brought, and tlie unfortunate gentleman was found lying on his face in his berth. Dr. Buchanan immediately attended, and applied most powerful restoratives, but without success. The doctor believes he was dead when the alarm was given. Mrs. Randall had been asleep in the opposite berth. It is said that the captain was subject to fits.
The Countess of Kintore, arrived yesterday, after a remarkably quick passage of 87 days. She left on the 19th July. She brings a large cargo and several passengers for Nelson.
