The lion. Mr. Johnston stated, in reply to questions put to him, that it was not the intention of the Government to take any steps, during the present session, towards the establishment of a colonial lunatic asylum. The hon. Mr. Johnston stated that it- was the intention of the Government to leave the Chatham Isles, which, are an integral part of the colony, to the operation of the Native Lands Act. On the motion of tiie hon. Mr. Miller, a select committee was appointed to consolidate and amend the various Acts relating to the gold-fields. A motion of the lion. Mr. Ackland was agreed to, that a return be laid upon the tahle, showing the number of persons licensed under the Distillation Prohibition Ordinance Amendment Act, 1865. The Districts Court Jurisdiction Extension Bill was read a third time and passed. The Criminal Law Procedure Bill was read a second time and committed.
