In reply to a question from the hon. Mr. Menzies, the hon. Mr. Johnston stated that, on the part of the Government, he had to reply that five regiments had already left the colony, together with the commissariat, engineers, and medical staff. The otber five regiments (the 12th, 14th, 18th, 50th, and 57th) were at the disposal of the general. The hon. Lieutenant-Colonel Whitmore obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled "An Act to limit the Number of- Members of the Legislative Council of New. Zealand, 1866." The Bill was read a first time, ordered to bo printed, and second reading was fixed for Tuesday next. The hon. Mr. Prendergast obtained leave to bring in a bill, entitled "An Act for the Regulation of Appeals from Justices of the Peace, acting in their summary jurisdiction." Tiie bill was read a first time, ordered to be printed, and second reading fixed for Tuesday next. The same hon. member also introduced a bill, entitled "An Act to facilitate the Performance of the Duties of Justices of tlie Peace." The bill was read a first time, ordered to be printed, and second reading was fixed for Tuesday next. - The hon. Mr. Prendergast moved for leavo to introduce a bill, intitled "An Act to amend the . law relating to the unlawful administration of poison, and to other offences against the person," Agreed to. Tlie bill was read a first time, ordered to be printed, and second reading fixed for Tuesday next. The Criminal Law Procedure Bill was read a third time, passed, and transmitted to the House of Representatives. The House then went into committee on the Oyster .Fisheries Bill.
