NEW SOUTH WALES.

March 22. A bushranger attempted to stick up Stewart's i store, Wattle- flat, on Thursday night. Stewart, however, opposed him, revolver in hand, and shots were exchanged. The bushranger decamped before assistance arrived, or he would most probably have been captured. A bill has been introduced into Parliament by the Treasurer (Mr. Eagan,) with the object of making provision for the payment of a certain portion of the public debt. It purposes to appoint public debt commissioners, whose special functions shall be to liquidate the present deficit by annual instalments, and it is proposed that not less than £ 100,000 per annum shall pass through their hands for that purpose. The Government propose in future to pay for the construction of their railways, principally by Government debentures. March 25. On Sunday evening, it having been announced that the Rev. John Graham would preach in the Prince of Wales Theatre, on the Wreck of the Steamship London. The building was crowded from the floor to the ceiling; at least 300 persons were crowded upon the stage. The Itev. gentleman speaking from a temporary pulpit on the fore-part of the stage. Several hundreds left the doors unable to gain admission, the house having been filled long before the commsneement of the service, which was very impressive.
