Ashley Women's Institute Hold Monthly Meeting
The monthly meeting of the Ashley Women's Institute was held in the school recently. Mrs Macann presided l 'over a large attendance of members. Mrs J. W. Macleod (Loburn) gave an instructive and interesting talk on the recent conference held at Wellington, which she attended as a delegate. A hearty-vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames H. Ludeman and GK S. Smith and Miss Fairbrother, after which a social helf hour was enjoyed by all. Competitions were won as follows: Handkerchief made from salt bag—Mrs W. Drake 1, Mrs H. Lock 2, Mrs H. Hill 3. Best bloom—Mrs W. Drake 1, Mrs H. Ludeman 2h, Miss N. Downing 3. CARD EVENING A progressive euchre match, Ashley Rank v. Mt. Grey Downs, was held at Ashley recently. A large number of players took part and the result was a win for the visitors. The highest individual scores 1 went to Miss R. Fairbrother and Mr W. Macann. The prizes were given, by Miss J. E. Croft and Mr P. J. Lindsay.
Supper was served and dancing was afterwards enjoyed to music supplied by Mrs J. Vallance.
A novelist says that while he is in town nobody seems to be intersted in him. He should let it be know that he thinks of buying a car.
