WOODEND
PICNIC.— The Woodend Old Scholars’ Association held their annual picnic last Saturday at the Woodend Beach. The Aveather Avas rather threatening in the early morning, but before the time for departure it cleared up. In the afternoon sports Avere held, but these had to be abandoned OAving to rain, and the large gathering had to seek shelter. In the evening a successful dance Avas held at the Public Hall in aid of funds. There Avas quite a large number present in spite of Avet night, and a very enjoyable time AA r as spent.
For those Avho preferred cards, euchre Avas held in the supper room. The Avinners Avere Mesdames F. McQuillan and A. H. Johnstone, Messrs J. H. Ballinger and F. Wilson. Music for dancing Avas supplied by Mrs D. O’Shea and party, and the duties of masters of ceremonies Avere carried out by Messrs L. Roberts and B. Eder.
A lucky spot waltz was woßl by Miss Lucy Crawford and Mr Bollington. Among those present were Mesdames J. H. Ballinger, F. D. Cassidy, W. C. Smith, J. Solomon, 11. Jones, H. Yax-
