WEDDING.

IVERACH—GILLETT. The wedding of Margaret Susan, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gillett, Hundalee, and late of Kaiapoi, and Leslie James, son of Mr and Mrs P. Iverach, Waiau, was quietly celebrated on Tuesday afternoon, 2nd August, at “ Harpsdale,” Waiau, the Rev. J. Newlands being the officiating minister. The bride, who was given away by, her father, wore a simple green crepe de chene frock and left later wearing a green ensemble.

SALVATION ARMY. LIFE SAVING GUARDS. The Rangiora. Life Saving Guards held their usual meeting at the Salvation Army Hall last Monday evening, Avhen about tAventy-five girls attended. It opened with the girls reciting their pledge, Avhich is as folloAVs:— “I promise to the best of my ability to fear God and serve Him, to give my strength and sympathy to the Aveak and suffering, to be loyal to my country, to be true to the Life Saving Guards’ Declaration.” During the evening the girls, Avho AA’ere Avorking for their second-class badge, practised semaphore. The rest of the evening Avas spent in knitting •ahd fancy-Avork. The company is open to girls of any demonination. Miss I Geddis is the guide leader.

HOT-WATER BOTTLES. Hot-Avater bottles Avear out all too soon, and in many cases it is the- fault of the owners, Avho do not take any precautions to prevent the rubber from rotting. If a hot Avater bottle is Avasbed out once a month Avith a Aveak soda Avater solution, it Avill last far longer than usual. This treatment keeps the rubber pliable and much less likely to perish. Hot Avater bottles should never be emptied and left Avith their sides touching, but should always be filled Avith air.
