Sydney Cutter Leads Hobart Race
SYDNEY, Wed. (12.15 p.ro.).—The cutter Trade Winds, of Sydney, is now leading the other contestants in the yacht race to Hobart. Previous radio reports did not know she was in front. She is now south of Bateman’s Bay and about 20 miles off the coast, leading the yawl Margaret Rintoul by 6 miles. The Margaret Rintoul and the Fortuna which is a mile behind hgr in third position, radioed their positions at 11.23 p.m. yesterday as about 30 miles south-east of Moittagu Island. Peer Gynt and Mistral II are over 10 miles astern of Fortuna. The crews report perfect light sailing conditions and most yachts are carrying spinnakers. A squally southerly change is expected to give trouble in Bass Strait. (START OF RACE -PAGE 4.)
