Man stem Verdict Before Christmas

BERLIN. Wed. (1 pm.)—Field Marshal Von Manstein should be convicted as a war -criminal because he could have prevented many of the atrocities committed by his troops on the Eastern Front, Sir Arthur Comyns-Carr said at Manstein’s trial in Hamburg today in his final address for the prosecution.

Manstein was so intent on glorifying his military achievements that he could not bring himself to risk his job.

Sir Arthur said that many of Hitler’s criminal orders could have been stopped if men like Manstein had stood together against him and taken their chance.

Hie court adjourned until December 12 when the judge advocate will start summing up. This is expected to last three or four days. The court president (Lieutenant General Sir Frank Simpson) said that the verdict would be announced a day or two before Christmas.
