Greatest Englishman

LONDON, Wed.—London newspapers hailed Mr Winston Churchill on his 75th birthday today as "the greatest living Englishman" and "the happy warrior.”

The Daily Mail said: “He has done more, seen more and knows more than any other statesman of his time. He has lived several full lives rolled into one. He has made his mistakes and, like his triumphs, they have been on the heroic scale.”

The Daily Mail stated: “If half the people of the world are free they owe their freedom more to this man than to any other. If the other half still have hopes of freedom their hopes are centred on him.”

The Daily Telegrooh said: “Not the least astonishing feature of an astonishing career is that Mr Churchill, at the age of 75, can look not only back but forward. Very many millions, not only in his own country, base their most cherished nopes on his future.”
