Lachlan To Resume Coastal Survey

AUCKLAND. Mon.. < SpA.— Manned by a Royal New Zealand Navy crew, the survey ship Lachlan is due in Auckland from Sydney tomorrow to re-commence the task of charting the New Zealand coast. HMNZS Lachlan is a River class frigate, specially equipped for survey work, while the commanding officer Commander ,1. M. Sharpev-Schafer, R.N.. is a specialist in charting work. Some of the New Zealand coastal charts arc 100 years old. although some areas were re-charted by HATS Endeavour in 1937. It is estimated that the task will occupy 20 years.. Port Nicholson will be the first section of coastline to be charted be the Lachlan. In two yjars lIMS Endeavour charted 662 miles of coast and completed 4000 square miles of soundings while, under the command of the present Admiralty Hydrographer, Captain A G. N. Wyatt. R.N. The new commanding officer of t.he survey ship served under him in Endeavour. The film actress Deanna Durbin has secured a divorce from her husband. Felix Jackson, writer and producer.
