Strong Market For Liverpool Wool
LONDON, Fri (10.30.).—There was a total clearance of 61,000 bales .including 27,500 from New Zealand, in a strong market at the Liverpool wool sales, states the committee of the London Wool Brokers. The bulk of wool was from the Joint Organisation account. The home trade bid freely on all descriptions and was the largest buyer, with France and Belgium giving good support. There was a large selection of crossbreds, mostly of medium quality. All grades met widespread competition, especially from Yorkshire topmakers whose stocks are relatively low.
Prices advanced considerably above levels ruling at the last London sales, medium qualities being 5 per cent dearer and finer grades up to 10 per cent dearer.
Scoured crossbreds sold equally well at prices well in advance of London rates, as did slipes which were in comparatively short supply. The selection of Merinos comprised almost entirely Australian wools which were in keen demand at prices fully 5 per cent dearer that at the London close, while Australian fine crossbreds were up to 10 per cent dearer in sympathy with New Zealand wools of similar quality.
