US Representative To Stand Trial

WASHINGTON. Fri. (11 a.m.) Federal Judge Alexander Holfzoff todav directed Representative J. Parnell Thomas (Republican, New Jersey) to be tried on November 7 on charges of falsifying the payroll for his office employees and filing false payroll claims against the Government.

Thomas has been suffering from stomach illness.

The judge ordered him to stand trial after an independent physical examination was made at the court's order. A Federal Grand Jury indicted Thomas and Helen Campbell, his secretary. or, November 8, 1948. Thomas faces a possible maximum penalty of 32 years’ imprisonment and a $40,000 fine.
