Confidence In Mayer
PAWS, Thu., (1.30 p.m.).—The Radical Socialist (M. Rene Mayer) was confirmed as Premier by the National Assembly late tonight. He received 341 voes to 183.
Mayer will now attempt to form a Cabint to end Prance’s fortnight-old political crisis..
M. Mayer told the Assembly that one Of the keystones of French foreign policy must be an attitude of cautious friendship towards Germany. ’He advocated legislation regulating the right Of certain categories of key state employees to strike. On wages and prices, he urged an unfreezing of wages and a quick return to collective bargaining. The strike legislation question may meet serious Objections from Socialists, who have let It be understood that they Will probably support M- Mayer but have reserved a final decision until after hearing his declaration.
