Probation Follows Breach Of Trust

“He abused the trust placed in him and stole these articles,” said Detec-tive-Sergeant E. W. Mahood, in the Whangarei Court today. He was prosecuting a 20-year-old labourer, whose name was suppressed.

The youth admitted two charges of stealing a fountain pen and a pair of scissors at Whatitiri.

Detective-Sergeant Mahood said he had been employed in canvassing for an Auckland firm and had committed the thefts.

v Most of the youth’s trouble was caused by his being away from the control of his father, said the probation officer (Mr E. W. Abercrombie). He suggested the youth should be placed on probation for not less than two years, with conditions that he should remain with his father and in his father’s employ. Messrs W. Reynolds and G. A. Bethetl, J.P.s, adopted this suggestion, jjnd, on the father’s application, suppressed the youth’s name.
