Softball Season In Wharngarei
The Deputy-Mayor (Mr H. W. James) will pitch the first ball at the official opening of the Whangarei softball season at Kensington Park on Saturday. The first match of the season will be between teams from the Whau Valley and Parua Bay schools. This will start at 12.30. p.m. At 1.30, the opening ceremony will take place. In the first games in the fourround series for the Emily Randall Cup, Mata will play MIA and Goldminers will play Pioneers. At a meeting last night, the management committee accepted with thanks a trophy donated by Mr T. O. Brown for the player scoring the most home runs during the Emily Randall Cup SG ]it will be known as the Oberlin Trophy. ... Softball players have been practising in preparation for the opening of the competition and with four teams in the field, the game should have a good season.
