Membership 54,045 Attendance 46
AUCKLAND, Thu., (Sp.).—Although claiming a membership of 54,045, the Automobile Association (Auckland) had to postpone its annual .meeting last night through lack of a quorum. Fifty members are required,’ but only 46 arrived. The president (Mr F. G. Farrell) said that a possible excuse for nonattendance was that, through a holdup at the Post Office, many members had not received their bulletins in time for the meeing. In the income and expenditure account. a surplus of £9091 was shown, while accumulated funds totalled £94,521. The annual, report continued that officers of the association delivered 1922 road safety lectures in 871 schools last year, a total of 90,497 children receiving instruction.
Concern is expressed at the continued and general deterioration of highways throughout the Auckland and Bay of Plenty districts. "The association views the future with anything but optimism,’’ the report stated. Continued pressure would also be exerted to ensure more prompt attention to the needs of the northern half of the North Island, concerning modernising and dustless surfaces, and the elimination of traffic hazards.
