Killed Pheasant Out Of Season
AUCKLAND, Tue. (P.A.)—Charged with killing.native game at Whitianga during the closed season, J. C. Clough pleaded guilty, before Mr J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court today. “Defendant, while driving along a road in a motor car, shot a cock pheasant with a pea rifle," said counsel for the Acclimatisation Society. “It was a tame bird, well known to local residents and respected as such.”
Clough told the magistrate that he acted on the spur of the moment, not realising it was out of season. When Mr Morling asked him what he was doing with a rifle, Clough replied that he was going on a fishing trip and had a rifle to shoot shags. The magistrate fined Clough £5 and ordered him to pay the solicitor’s fee.
