Race To Rescue [rapped liners

LONDON, Mon. (P.A.). Rescue teams are toiling in an effort to reach three miners trapped in Thornley colliery, County Durham, as a result of a heavy fall of the roof. Following a period of silence which led to fears for the men’s safety, rescuers heard the trapped miners shouting this afternoon that they were all right and had satisfactory ventilation.

Rescue squads expect to reach them tomorow morning.

By then they will have been imprisoned for at least 24 hours. Three men were drowned at Thornley colliery in May by an inrush of water.
