Archbishop Averill underwent a major internal operation yesterday and his condition was later reported to be very satisfactory. Mr E. B. Glanville, formerly instructor in agriculture at Whangarei, and recently assistant field superintendent of the Department of'Agriculture, at Auckland, has been appointed as farm superintendent, a new position in the department made necessary by the development of the divisions’ research stations. Mr E. H. Arnold of Whangarei, succeeds Mr Glanville as assistant field superintendent at Auckland.

Squadron Leader N. A. Vear, 0.8. E., officer commanding the technical training school at Hobsonville, will leave New Zealand in the Rangitata in December to join the Royal Air Force on exchange duty for two years. He will also attend specialist technical courses in Britain. The RAF officer with whom he is to be exchanged is Squadron Leader J. S. Mason, who is due to arrive by the Dominion Monarch next month.
