Four Hikurangi Players In Team Against Australia

RUGBY LEAGUE . . .

FOUR Northlanders, all members of the Hikurangi club team, have been included in the Northern Provinces Rugby League representative team to play the touring Australians at Jubilee Park, Whangarei, next Tuesday. They are fullback B. Latham, winger J. Stringfellow; fiveeighths R. Tweedie and lock forward T. Wedge.

The Provinces team also comprises seven Aucklanders, and four South rrOViriLCS UCUILU

Aucklanders. Three of those selected Will be omitted from the final 13 and will act as emergencies. • The team will assemble in Whangarei on Monday. The Australians will arrive from Auckland on the morning of the match, and will be tendered a civic reception. They return to Auckland the next day. The Northern Provinces team is: Fullback, B. Harnblcton (South Auckland), S. Tupaea (South Auckland), C. Johnson (Auckland), F. Dormer (Auckland). The match is scheduled to start at 2 o'clock.

WANGANUI, Tue. (Sp.)—The touring Australian Rugby League team defeated a Combined Southern Provinces team al Wanganui yesterday by 17 points to 15. The visitors showed- superior combination in the inside backs and better understanding in the forwards, but the southern team improved its tackling in the second half and was able to keep the score down. Mulligan, Hansen and de Belin played very strenuously, in the Australian pack. Of the southern forwards, Kreyl, Morgan and English played well. The Australians fielded a grand fujlback in Bulgin, who was always ready to launch attacks, even when in defensive positions. He displayed a neat side-step, and plenty of pace. The southern fullback, Stilwell, played a sound game. For Australia, Graves, 'de Belin and Roberts scored tries. Groves converted one ancl kicked two penalty goals. Johnston kicked one penalty. Kreyl, Haysor.m and Chatham • scored lor Southern Provinces. Stilwell converted two tries and kicked a penalty goal.
