£8,000,000- Auckland Port Development Plan

AUCKLAND, Sat. (Sp.). To provide extension of the Auckland port, a reclamation of about 900 acres of land is contemplated by the Auckland Harbour Board.

The proposal is to make a reclamation between Point Chevalier and Te Atatu with a 25-berth port. The board’s engineer (Mr N. L. Vickerman) is in Europe with instructions to see if overseas contractors can be interested in the project, the board’s plant not being adequate to carry out such a large work. Estimated cost of preparing breastworks, reclamation and dredging is £5,120,000, with berthage at £3,052,000, bringing the total cost to more than £8,000,000.
