Convent’s Loss After 3 Extra Spells
The Whangarei Rugby Union’s seventh and eighth graders played their last games of the season in a field day at Rugby Park this afternoon. Toughest battle in the series was the seventh grade game between Country and Convent. Country won when Convent forced down after three extra spells had been played. A brilliant break by Walter Nicholson from half-way paved the way for Country’s triumph. It was Convent’s first defeat this year. As it was holding up the senior game the eighth grade final between Hora Hora A. and B was called off after four extra spells had been played with no score resulting. EIGHTH GRADE Hora Hora 3 (try by M. Burke), Country 0. Hora Hora 3 (Ross Dudley try) v. Huntly 0. Convent 13 (lan Bade 2. Henry Hughes tries, lan Bade and Ken Hjorth conversions) v. United 0. SEVENTH GRADE Hora Hora B 8 (tries by Colin Thorpe, Ronnie Burke, conversion by Noel Cameron), United 0. Country beat Convent by a force down.
