Threatened To Hit Referee
NEW PLYMOUTH, Wed. (Sp.)— Ordered off the field in a club Rugby game at, Taumarunui last Saturday on the eve of the opening match of the Australian tour against King Country today. J. H. Marriner, the New Zealand Maori representative forward, was reprimanded when he appeared before a meeting of the management committee of the Taumarunui Rugby Sub-Union. Marriner, captain of the Athletic team, was stated by the referee (Mr H. C. Morris) to have questioned the awarding of a try to Taumarunui. and after being ordered off to have threatened to strike, the referee. Marriner told the management committee that he was “a bit overheated” at the time and now felt sorry about the incident. He considered the penalty inflicted on him was too severe. When he was ordered off, he got hot tinder the collar, and said he would punch the referee on the nose.
