Car Thrown 48ft

ASHBURTON, Wed. (P.A.). An addition to Ashburton’s long list of crossing accidents occurred this morning when a slow train from Christchurch struck a car at the Racecourse Road crossing. The car wqs thrown 48ft and completely wrecked. The driver, Mr Gordon Meredith, tractor driver, of Dorie, had a remarkable escape and was admitted to hospital with injuries described as “moderately serious,” though the full extent had not yet been ascertained.

Assistant Scoutmaster David Cleary has taken over control of the senior section of the Ist Whangarei Scout Group, which he first joined as a Wolf Cub. At the monthly meeting of the group Commissioner L. Philpott said that most of the boys who. had passed through the troop as fully qhalified scouts in past years had left Whangarei. One ex-lst Whangarei Scout, Mr Charlie Clarke, was now in charge of a troop at Flin Flon. Manitoba, Canada.
