Margaret Mitchell Dies From Injuries
NEW YORK, Tue. (11 a.m.) —Margaret Mitchell, author of “Gone With the Wind,” died in Atlanta today from injuries suffered when she was run down by a motor car last Thursday night. Governor Herman Talmadge immediately ordered a period of mourning throughout the State of Georgia until Miss Mitchell's funeral is over. He asked that all (lags bo down at half-mast. Miss Mitchell, who was 46, and her husband, Mr John Marsh, were crossing a street when a car struck her, fracturing her skull and crushing her pelvis. Doctors, including the foremost nerve and brain specialists, worked futilely to save the writer’s life. President Truman had sent a telegram hoping that she would recover. Grief swept Atlanta when it was known that Miss Mitchell was dead.
