Auckland Hospital Costs Criticised
AUCKLAND, Tue. (Sp.) The Auckland Hospital Iparfl has been asked to maHe a pfimplete overhaul of its clerical labour costs. A fetter from the Director-General of Health (Dr T. R Ritchie), which was before the board last night, stated that there appeared to be scope for a saving of upwards of £35,000. Although Auckland had 1Q97 fewer beds than the Wellington, North Canterbqry apd Otago boards combined, it employed 33 more staff, at an additional cost of £25,2(57. ' The letter, stated that the department was making an effort to arrest the rising.cost, of hospital maintenance throughoiff the country. Calculated on a cost per bed basis, the board was spending more than double-what was spent hy the other three boards on clerical labour.
