In support of J.A.L.’s letter in last night’s Advocate, may I repeat his words: “Why all this fuss about spelling?” But may I say SPELLING that if J.A.L. is an example of the teacher of yesteryear, is it any wonder that the modern generation's pronounciation is becoming worse and worse? Phthisis is pronounced with the first syllable not as the “t” in potato but as the “th” in throw. Poor pupils, poor parents, poor all of us, is right— O.M.H.
