Unionists Will Not Work Ship
MELBOURNE, Thu. (11 a.m.)—Following the decision of the Federal Council of the Waterside Workers’ Federation to reaffirm the black ban on the Canadian freighter Haligonian Duke, the Victorian watersiders ruled that it was a matter for discussion between the Federal Council and the Australian Council of Trade Unions.
This means'that despite their previous decision, Melbourne watersiders' will not proceed with the unloading of 6700 tons of urgently needed Indian coal. The State Government, which has already declared a limited state of emergency, is considering using volunteer labour or naval ratings to unload the coaL
