Waterside Delegates Walk Out Of Meeting

WELLINGTON, Thu, (P.A.). —Delegates from the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union walked out of a meeting of the Wellington Labour Representation Committee last night after the committee passed a motion supporting the policy of the Government on the military training issue.

The committee decided also to .ask branches of the Labour Party to give their support. The subject was raised by a request from the .national executive that the Government be supported. The walk-out followed references by a delegate to a wartime Labour Party resolution and a suggestion that perhaps the Waterside Workers’ Uninn had no right to be represented at the meeting.

'J’lre watersiders’ delegates stated today (hat they had objected to these remarks.

A resolution supporting compulsory military training was carried at the annual meeting of the Auckland Clerical Workers’ Union last night. There were three dissentients. The union also decided to urge members to support the affirmative side at the referendum, believing that New Zealand’s place in the Empire was at stake. Mr F. Langley was returned unopposed as president and Mr A. S. Couglan as vice-president. (OTHER REFERENDUM NEWS—l*l}
