WHANGARE JERSEY BREEDERS PLAN SALE
PLANS for the 1949 Jersey bull show and sale at Whangarei on September 27 were made at the annual meeting of the Whangarei Jersey Club at Whangarei yesterday. After some discussion it was decided to commence the judging of the show classes at 9.30 a.m., half an hour later than last year’s starting time
Mr G. McLachlan raised the point of selling time, stating that in his opinion it was unwise to allow the auctioneers unlimited time once the 50gn mark was reached. Those who had the last bulls in the catalogue were penalised, lie said, adding that lie thought it would be to the advantage of breeders to restrict tliis phase of the sale.
turning the bull to the vendor would be borne by the purchaser. A case had arisen where a purchaser living some distance north of Whangarei had reason to return a bull sold at Whangarei. and offered on account of a breeder whose farm was af) miles south of Whangarei. NOT INTENDED
The New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders Association, to which this case had been referred, had written to the Whangarei 'club stating that the clause holding the purchaser liable for transport costs to the vendor's farin had probably not been intended to apply in this manner. It was designed to cover costs of the return of the bull to Whangarci. the place of sale.
“Some auctioneers take up too much time, reading out the whole pedigree which is already in the catalogue tor us to see if we are interested." said Mr J'. A. Stevens.
“Tin* time-keeper should use discretion because if bidding is going ahead it would be disastrous to use the whistle.”
Mr McLachlan moved that an additional half minute be allowed after tiie 50 gn mark had been reached. This motion lapsed for want of a seconder.
It was apparent that the guarantee should be amended to obviate any such hardship to the purchaser, the letter stated. Mr J. A. Stevens delegate to the national conference, presented a brief report on the business transacted.
BUTTERFAT QUALIFICATIONS Mr 11. Maugham moved that for an entry to secure admission to the first division, the sire's dam should have the same standard of butterfat qualifications as was required by tiie entry's dam. with the exception of merit sires or C'BBs.
