Cowie Man Of Hour In Ten Wickets Victory

GLASGOW, Tue. (11.30 a.m.).—New Zealanders, by Wallace led! They beat Scotland by 10 wickets, and Cowie proved Ins form by taking 6 wickets for 66 runs, bowling 37 overs and 10 maidens. . The Scots did not go down without a bonny light, and their second innings lasted 7 hours 19 minutes, and was worth 299.

This left New Zealand to score .14 in two hours, and Wallace gave Cave and Cresswell the honour of getting the modest total, which they did with complete satisfaction to themselves. ■ It was Cowie, however, who wgs the man of the day for New Zealand. He bowled unchanged for.two hours before lunch, and continued afterwards with great spirit. The easy-paced pitch gave him little aid, but still he hit the stumps six times, and the entire New Zealand team rejoiced and felt that it was some reward for his labours at Derby. It was New Zealand’s ninth win.

Scotland's honours went to the captain, Willatt, and Crosskey. who made 169 in four hours.

DOUR BATTING

They batted well and were dour as only Scots can be. and, at one time, they threatened to force a draw; but then Cowie knocked out Crosskey’s off-stump when he was 81 with a beautiful ball and that was the beginning of the end. It was not until Burtt bowled Willatt with one that came from the off to the left-hander, however, that the end really was in sight, and that was an hour and a quarter after Crosskey bad gone. By then Willatt had his century and his glory, and was roundly applauded for his fight. Winrow and Edwards showed good spirit and put on another 45, until Sutcliffe had Winrow caught off a hook and Edwards was collected by the conquering Cowie. There was much good-natured cheering as Scotland crept, run by run, to the point where New Zealand would have to bat again; and Burtt rounded off a good match by having the last man neatly stumped by the eager Reid. The New Zealanders enjoyed the match and the traditional hospitality of the Scots. And now for England! .
