Take No Photographs
WELLINGTON, Wed. (P.A.)— Because they had not obtained permission to photograph the main entrance to Parliament Buildings, some recent visitors were ordered away, it was stated in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mrs G. H. Ross »fO—Hamilton) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister if he was aware that orderlies at the main entrance, obviously acting under instructions, had prevented visitors to Parliament grounds from taking photographs of the main steps. She asked the Prime Minister to give instructions to stop “this interference with the rights of the public.” Mrs Ross said recent visitors, including members of the Women’s Division of the Federated Farmers, were ordered away when they attempted to take snapshots of the front entrance.
The Speaker (Mr McKeen), asking leave of the House to answer the question, said the control of the House was under his jurisdiction during the session, and the visitors concerned had not asked him for permission to take photographs.
Had they done so. it would have been readily given.
