Poured Acid Over Police Chief

CALCUTTA, Tue. (2 p.m.).—A mob of several hundred armed Communists butchered an Indian police chief after women among them had poured acid over him at Dibrugah railway station, in north Assam, according to reports reaching Calcutta. The inspector and other police officials were making inquiries when they clashed with the Communists and the inspector was killed. When a police rescue party went to the area the Communists put women and children in their front ranks and resisted the police with pistols, handgrenades and acid bombs. The police opened fire and killed one woman and injured a number of others.

Four-hundred Communists were arrested.
