Restricted Leave For School Teachers

'WELLINGTON, Wed. (P.A.)—Because of a serious shortage of staff the Wellington Education Board will not, in future, grant leave of absence to teachers except in circumstances “so compelling and necessitious as to override the importance of the consideration of maintaining the education of children.”. '

A resolution in these terms, stated to be in line with the view of the Minister- of Education (Mr McCombs) was adopted at last night’s meeting of the board.

Mr N. E. Dalmer said the resolution might lead to resignations. Mr G. Matthew said a policy such as the board was adopting might have the effect of driving some teachers to the service of boards other than Wellington.

The motion was carried on the voices.
