U.K Canada And A-Bomb
WASHINGTON, Tue. (1.30 p.m.n—A meeting of the joint Congressionl Atomic Energy Committee has been' called for tomorrow to discuss relations with Britain and Canada in the held of atomic energy. In announcing the meeting Senator Brian McMahon, chairman of the committee. eonlii neti that the hush-hush meeting President Truman held on Thursday dealt with that subject. Although Senator McMahon did not say so. Ihe principal problem is reported to be Britain's view that she should be given additional American information on how to produce the atomic bomb. The majority of the committee is understood to be opposed at present to the passing on of this information to any foreign country, including Britain. Mr McMahon said today that the committee, in closed session, would explore with the State Department, national military establishment and United States Atomic Energy Commission the “continuing problem of American relations with the United Kingdom and Canada in the (ield of atomic energy.”
He added: “The three countries are at present cooperating in a limited number of specifically-defined areas of information. as well as on matters of raw materials supply.”
