Race Riot In London
LONDON, Tuo. (I p.m.)—London had' its worst race riot for years last night when a crowd of 2000 attacked a coloured workers' hostel in the Last End. Two hundred policemen-arrested 10 coloured and seven white men in n bailie which lasted three and a half hours. Two were admitted to hospital seriously injured, and three policemen were hurl. Tension between white and coloured men has increased rapidly in the Deptford waterside area recently, and list fights have been frequent. Last night's figin pegan when a youth attacked a coloured man who had put his arm around a white girl’s wa isf.
Attacked by a growing crowd of white people, the Nigerians retreated into their hostel, barricaded the doors mid hurled plates, ensues and pieces of. burning coal at. the people outside. The police morse down the hostel door and fights broke out. all over the building. They also threw a cordon around the block to keep the crowd away from the building but angry groups rushed the police lines three times.
