Mr T. H. Steadman Elected First Life Member
•ur t o STEADMAN, of Whangarei. was made the first life member of the Northland Bowling Centre at its annual meeting laSt Responsible for the formation of the centre in 1926, Mi Steadman has done a tremendous amount ot the North, and it was in recognition of his outstanding set wee over a long period, that the honour was bestowed upon him.
In proposing that life-membership be given to Mr Steadman. Mr F. R. Webster outlined the history ot the centre in its early years. Mr Webster explained that he had obtained his information from past consultations with Mr Steadman. In seconding the motion, Mr y Richards tKarno) instanced how Mr Steadman had come forward with an offer of financial assistance when Kamo had first considered forming a club.
many occasions on which Mr Steadman" had helped clubs in a quiet way. Mr B. G. Smith said that the brief history brought forward by Mr Webster would prove invaluable in future. An attempt had been made last year to obtain historical data from minute books, but it had not been possible to get {nil information, as early records bad been lost. The brief history, which contains valuable information as to dates, is to be kept and used as a basis for further investigation into iho early activities of the centre.
