Higher Basic Wage In Australia

SYDNEY, Tue. (12.30 p.m.)—Further basic wage increases to apply throughout Australia from the first pay period in August have been announced. The amounts of the increases vary from 3/- weekly in Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, Adelaide and Brisbane to 6/- in Perth. The new basic wage for the main cities are: Sydney £6/10/-, Melbourne £6/8/-, Hobart, £6/7/-, Perth £6/6/-, Adelaide £6/4/- and Brisbane £6/2/-.

The rate in New South Wales country towns and in awards based on the weighted average index of six capital cities will be £6/10/-.
