Police State' In Whangarei!

The need tor avoidance of the police stale application of politics as being encountered ici European countries was expounded by Mr J. D. Gerard, speaking on behalf of the Whangarei USA, at the conscription referendum meeting at the Town Hall last night. “But we have a police state here, judging by the clumber of blue uniforms at the back of the hall," he added, referring humorously to the number of policemen who attended the meeting, apparently prepared to quell any disturbance which might have occurred during the discussion of a controversial subject.
