Boy Fatally Burned At Whangaruru South
Extensive burns, which proved fatal, were suffered by a young boy at Whangaruru South on Saturday night. He was: Barry Anderson, 7, living with his grandfather, Mr George Reti, Whangaruru South. The boy was standing in front of a fire when firewood was added, either by himself or a little girl. His clothing caught fire and the alarm was given by an older girl. After being rolled in a bag to extinguish the flames, the boy was taken to the Whangarci Hospital. He was in an extremely shocked condition, with burns to the face, front of chest, abdomen and right arm, leg and buttocks. From the time of his admission at 7.45 p.m. on Saturday until he died at 12.55 p.m. yesterday, doctors and staff worked almost continuously to save his life.
An inquest was opened by the district coroner (Mr G. H. Lloyd) today.
