3 N.Z. Airlift Crews Returning

AUCKLAND. Mon. (Sp.). After having flown 283 trips from Lubeck to Berlin and back, three RNZAF aircrews are expected to return to New Zealand early in September. Since their arrival in Lubeck in April the three crews, flying Dakotas, had carried more than three tons of cargo on each trip. Details of the scope of the air lift which for 10 months maintained a population of 2,250,000 people, wera given, by the' British Secretary of State for Air (Mr Arthur Henderson) at the end of May. He said that British and American aircraft had rilade 195,530 flights to Berlin, and had can-led 1,583,686 tons of supplies. Air crews from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa had made more than 3000 flights, carrying about 11,000 tons.

The cost to the British taxpayer during the financial year ended March 31 this year was £5,850,000.
