Radio Speakers For And Against Conscription
WELLINGTON, Mon. (P.A.).—The cases for and against national military training will be given in a series of nine broadcasts from all Y A and Y Z stations, but not Z B stations.
The programme is:— July 19, Mr J. Nigel Wilson (Auckland), representing the Second NZEF Association; July 20, Sir Howard Kippenberger (Wellington), Dominion president of the NZRSA; July 21, Mr J. A. Lee (Auckland), representing the New Zealand Peace and Anti-Con-scription Federation; July 25, Mr J. T Burrows, headmaster of the Waitaki Boys' High School; July 26, Mr O. E. Burton (Wellington), representing the Christian Pacifist Society. July 26, Mr C. H. Upham, V.C. and bar (Cheviot); July 28, Mr E. H. Dowsett (Wellington), representing the Society of Friends; August 1, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holland); August 2, the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser). All talks begin at 6.40 p.m.
Skinner Dye At Whangarei Today
The Minister of Rehabilitation (Mr Skinner) was due to arrive at Whangarei this afternoon. He will address a public meeting in the Town Hall tonight on the conscription issue. It is understood that Mr Skinner will not receive any deputations during his brief visit to Whangarei, as his trip is solely in connection with the advocacy of conscription. The leader of the Opposition (Mr Holland) is also to address a meeting at Whangarei on the same subject. His itinerary includes a visit to Whangarei on July 28.

ROTORUA, Mon. (Sp.).—One thousand Maori people who gathered at Murupara yesterday unanimously agreed to the principle of national service on the same basis as Euiopeans. . , They will ask the Government to revive the Maori Battalion by the creation of small military units Speakers were Mr A. T. Carroll, ot Wniroa, and Messrs H. R. Vercoe and D. King, of Rotorua. „ They emphasised the discipunaiy effect that training would have on young Maori men. The purpose of the meeting was to unveil a flagstaff beside the meeting house and a tombstone in memory ot Mr D. Rewi, a late Maori Department supervisor for the district.
