Aucklanders Star In Hikurangi Boxing Bouts

THE Hikurangi Boxing Club scored another “hit” on Saturday night with a first-class amateur tournament. Four Aucklanders featured in the 14-bout programme and their clashes with leading Northland exponents were thoroughly enjoyed by the gallery. There were also thrills aplenty in the other bouts.

All Aucklanders scored wins. Cotter had a distinct advantage in height and reach over Flower niyi employed a good straight left. Flower scored points with snappy right-hand-ed" punching (o the head. It was a very even go, with Cotter lasting slightly the better. King was too polished for the nuggoty Moore. The Aucklander’s straight punching was delightful. He set an examole in this respect. Battershell proved himself an outstanding novice. He had a weight advantage of 11 lbs over Gubolinscy, who absorbed ennsiderable Dunishment and showed commendable gameness. Cleaner punching gave Dragievich the decision over Macnav. PLAYED FOOTBALL Macnay tired in the latter stages. Like Flower, he had played football during the afternoon. Cant scored the only knock-out. He dropped Nisbet with a solid right to the head half-way through the first round. Referees were Messrs H. Hughes, M. Alach and B. Dacoory. Results:—
