FOOTBALLERS DIE
When playing Rugby football at Gladstone, Wairarapa, on Saturday, a man received injuries from which he died on the field of play. He was: Mr Rex Arthur Playle, aged 27. of Grey town. A player in a junior grade Rugby match at Rugby Park, Waihi, on Saturday, collapsed on the field and died later. He was: Mr Henry Arthur Charles Moulton Crocker, aged 23, of Katikati. Mr Crocker collapsed at half-time, and his death occurred in the ambulance when he was being taken to a doctor.
Three children were hurt when a service bus ran off the road and overturned on the Kurow-Tekapo main highway on Saturday night. Carrying about 20 children and three adults the bus was negotiating a difficult bend, and slid down an embankment, capsizing into a swamp. The bus was later destroyed by fire, some petrol.around the vehicle catching alight. Terry Payne, aged 13, suffered cuts in the head and leg and Peter Herland, aged 12. cuts in the hand. They were admitted to the Timaru Hospital. The other child was able to return home. All are from Tekapo.
