Chinese Floods
LONDON. Wc-d. (12.20 p.m.u—'The Associated Press Shanghai correspondent says the Yangtse River flood has driven an estimated 250,000 people from their homes.
Floods on the Yangtse, Iluangho and smaller rivers in west, central and south-west China arc tile worst in 20 years. In some sectors they are described as the worst in history.
Bombing raids by Nationalist planes aggravated the flood conditions, and Peiping radio alleged tonight that Nationalist troops at Shashi, about 135 miles south-west of Hankow, are destroying dykes along the Chingking River. The radio added that the flood now threatens to inundate four entire counties and sections of two other counties. menacing 2,000,000 inhabitants. Great distress has been reported from Honan, Anwhei and North Kiangsu provinces.
