Showers Of Fish, Frogs

WELLINGTON. Thu. (P.A.).—The phenomenon of fish, frogs and other small life being showered over land was not unprecedented, although it was rare, stated the Director of the Dominion Museum (Dr R. A. Falla) commenting on the Hastings report of a large shoal of small fish found in a paddock about 10 miles from the sea Dr Falla said the phenomenon was more common on the fringes of the tropics, especially on the east coast of America. There, he said, fish were whirled in from the Atlantic. The small fish referred to in the Hastings report might be carp. It was quite likely that they might have been drawn up from a pond by a waterspout. The fish were not necessarily from the sea, he said. (HASTINGS REPORT—PAGE 3)
