Maurice d'Oisly, the operatic tenor, has died in London, aged 67 years. Mr d’Oisly was a professor and adjudicator at the Royal Acamedy of Music. He was the husband of the late Rosina Buckman, the New Zealand singer, whom he married in 1919. Mr d’Oisly visited New Zealand in 1922-23 in the course of a world tour. Mr J. T. Gilkison, project engineer for the Waikato hydro-electric development schemes, has been appointed inspecting engineer of hydro-electric works in the North Island, with headquarters in Wellington. His duties .will be concerned especially with the works in the Waikato. He will leave Mangakino to take up his new duties next week.

Mx- Thomas Barrett, a resident of Waikaka, Southland, for many years, celebrates his 109th birthday today. He was born in Newtown, Tasmania, and came to New Zealand in 1868. Before coming to the Dominion he was a coach driver in Victoria, and soon after his arrival at Port Chalmers was employed by Cobb and Co.

Mr J. C. Blacklock, of Nukutawhiti (Twin Bridges), was appointed by the Bay of Islands County Council yesterday to fill the vacancy caused on the Bay of Islands Hospital Board by the resignation of Mr G. H. McKenzie Mr Blacklock. who is a farmer, was nominated by Cr D. Rintoul cad seconded by Cr C. F. Jones. No other nominations were offered.

The resignation of Mr F. E. Uffindell from the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce executive was received with regret at a meeting of the chamber last night. Mr J. R. Maddren was welcomed as a new member of the chamber. Mr Maddren was president of the Junior Chamber before it went into recess.

The Russell riding representative on the Bay of Islands County Council (Mr C. S. Foster) is seriously ill in hospital at Kawakawa. Mr Foster is also a member of the Bay of Islands Harbour Board and chairman of the Russell Town Board.
