Allen, Elvidge Are Fit To Play Again
EAST LONDON, Mon.—The captain, F. R- Allen, and R. R. Elvidge, who were injured in the opening match of the tour, are back in the All Black side for the fifth game against Border on Wednesday. Competition Rugby went into recess in the Border during the war and it is only just regaining its high standard of pre-war years. Earlier this season, Border lost 6—3 to Eastern Province and, in view of the close result between the All Blacks and Eastern Province, the local side is very hopeful of success. The teams are:—All Blacks: J.. W. Goddard, W. A. Meates, R. R. Elvidge, P. Henderson, F. R. Allen, G. W. Delamore, W. J. M. Conrad, H. F. Fraser N. H. Wilson, J. G. Simpson, P. J. Crowley, C. Willocks, M. J. McHugh, L. A. Grant and N. H. Thornton. Border: Fullback, Snyman; threequarters, Geraghty, Geldenhuys, Johnstone and Saunders; halves, van Rensburg and Woodward. Front row, Smith, Mackenzie and Pretorius; middle row, King, Brock, Gordon and Raath; back row, Kenyon. Nine members of the Border team took part in the South African trials at Pretoria. They were Snyman. van Rensburg, Woodward, Smith, Mackenzie, Pretorius Gordon, Raath and Kenyon. Kenyon was included in the 32 Springbok possibles announced after the trials, and is regarded as the likely Springbok test captain. Because of the continued humid weather, the All Blacks intend practising late in the afternoons instead of the mornings.
A reduction in borough rates from 4/10 in the £ to 4/4 was decided on by the Papakura Borough Council last night. The reduction was possible largely as a result of the rise in the recent valuation of the borough, which is based on the annual rental value, from £39,138 to £54,492.
