Biggest U. K. Rail Halt For Decade
LONDON, Sun. (1 p.m.).—The blg- ! gest railway stoppage for a decade brought train services on almost every line in north-east Britain to a standstill for 24 hours today. Ten thousand railwaymen were idle in protest against the new roster. Altogether over 30 main line long- [ distance trains and 200 local trains were cancelled. The strikers’ spokesman said the men would strike every week-end until the issue was settled—including next week-end, which is the Whitsun j holiday. t ! l ■
